Evolution of a Website

by Cathe Morrow

A few months ago my sister-in-law was visiting me with her 21 year old daughter. I thought it would be nice to take them out to see our river, so I arranged for us to go on an eco-cruise while they were in town.

It turned out to have been an even better idea than I imagined. You see, Sharon (that's my sister-in-law), does web development for a living. By the end of the cruise she was offering to volunteer her time as our webmaster. I guess she liked what she saw and heard.

So now our website (HackensackRiverkeeper.org) is undergoing an evolution. So, far we've added a slide show that we think you will enjoy, upgraded the way our Keeperwear is displayed, added a link to The Charitable Emporium site – your link to support the Hackensack Riverkeeper while you do your online shopping (see article on Page 11), and many other things that we hope you will find helpful.

Very soon you will find pages with information on our eco-cruises and eco-walks, as well as our Canoe Project in Laurel Hill Park. Keep checking back and watch the evolution in progress.

Sharon has her own company (Morrow Net Programming Services – www.morrownps.com). She specializes in providing custom Unix-based solutions for small to mid-sized businesses. The solutions range from User Interface Design to Database Design and Implementation to E-commerce Capability (including interfacing to online Credit Card processors). She uses Unix-based "open source" (i.e. free) technologies which results in a less expensive implementation for her clients. She can (and does for us) serve as Webmaster for companies already established on the Web but with a need for someone to handle ongoing maintenance and/or enhancements.

She also maintains strategic relationships with various Web Graphics/Design and Hosting firms, which provides one stop shopping for clients who have yet to establish their web presence or who want to upgrade their existing site. Customer satisfaction is her #1 priority, and if the responsiveness she has shown us so far is any indication, she is bound to achieve that goal.

All of us at Hackensack Riverkeeper want to take the opportunity to thank Sharon for donating her time and expertise to our efforts. But, I also want to thank those that came before her. I found Captain Bill about a year and a half ago through the website, so even in its simpler state it has been immeasurably valuable to me personally.
