Letters to Riverkeeper
October 4, 2001
Dear Captain Bill:
Thank you for your kind invitation to attend the Annual Hackensack Riverkeeper Awards Celebration. The work that you and your organization do to promote, save, and repair the Hackensack River has been unprecedented. The commitment of people like yourself and your volunteers to educating the people of Bergen County about one of its true natural treasures has been a wonderful asset to our community.
As an environmentalist, I truly appreciate the advocacy work your group has done to let elected officials know about the river including its origins and potential harmful agents that could threaten or destroy it. I was pleased to work with members of your organization to vigorously oppose the Meadowlands Mills Project on the Empire Tract. I hope that in the future we will be able to consider this site for preservation.
I look forward to continuing my long-standing relationship with you and your members to fight the potential threats and preserve the existing serenity of the Hackensack River, one of the jewels of Bergen County. I wish you the best of luck on your Awards Celebration and in the future.
Very truly yours,
Douglas M. Bern

Dear Captain Bill,
Thank you so very much for addressing the Master Gardeners Association of New Jersey at our Annual Fall Conference on Saturday. Your presentation was so very well received, and we are grateful for your participation. We appreciate your bringing all the printed material to reinforce your message, too.
Obviously, your program resonated with the group. I hope your program inspires more activism, more financial support, and more work to protect New Jersey's natural treasures.
Your presentations to the Garden Club, the Bergen County Master Gardeners, and the Hackensack River Greenway Friends were all great, but you outdid yourself as our keynote speaker! Thank you again.
Sincerely,
Marlane Bernstein
