WMA 5 Ambassador Update

New Ambassador geared for outreach

Hello, I am the new AmeriCorps Watershed Ambassador for the Hackensack and Hudson River watersheds, a.k.a. Watershed Management Area 5 (WMA5). Born in San Francisco and raised in Brooklyn, I recently graduated from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA, with a degree in Environ-mental Science.

After spending the majority of my life as a student, I decided to give back to the community by passing on some of my knowledge. That is why I signed up with the New Jersey Watershed Ambassador Program (NJWAP), an AmeriCorps program organized by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The focus of the NJWAP is educating the public and raising awareness about watershed related issues.

Because Area 5 is the most densely populated WMA in the state, humans greatly impact water quality, open space, wildlife and many other environmental issues. By educating the citizens of WMA5 about the problems facing our waterways, we’ll be working together to protect and restore New Jersey’s environment.

Based out of Hackensack Riverkeeper, I am reaching out to schools, community groups, organizations and private citizens to foster a sense of responsibility and stewardship for the watersheds of WMA5, and for the greater watershed in which we all live called planet Earth.

To learn more about the NJWAP, schedule a presentation, or to join me in conducting a visual or biological assessment of local waterways, please contact me at ambassador@hackensackriverkeeper.org. You can also reach me by phone at Hackensack Riverkeeper at 201-968-0808. I will be more than happy to help you.  Just like water, I am a great resource …USE ME!
