In the latest chapter of the growing relationship between Hackensack Riverkeeper (HRI) and Ducks Unlimited (DU), Captain Bill Sheehan received DU’s Conservation Service Award on March 26. Bestowed for “Outstanding contributions to the cause of migratory waterfowl conservation and the preservation of North America’s waterfowl heritage for generations to come,” the award was presented by DU State Council Chairman Michael Panos.

“Over the past five years, I’ve gotten to know Bill and his staff and to work quite a lot with them,” said Panos from the podium in the Grand Ballroom at the Crossroads Sheraton Hotel. “It’s always an honor and a pleasure to work with such committed people.”

With conservation projects throughout North America, Ducks Unlimited is one of the most effective organizations working to preserve wetlands on a hemispheric scale. In New Jersey, DU has added thousands of acres to state wildlife management areas in the Delaware Bayshore region. Closer to home, DU was responsible for the restoration of Harrier Meadow in North Arlington and will soon be collaborating with the NJ Audubon Society on a new bird survey of the Meadowlands District.
