Hackensack Riverkeeper is a charter member of the Nature Program Cooperative, a network of environmental organizations. NPC member organizations provide opportunities to experience and enjoy our region’s natural side.  Members of one are welcome at all. (Non-members also welcome.) Here is upcoming programming:

 

Visual and Bio Assessment Training

Hosted by: 3 NJ Watershed Ambassadors

June 10, 2006,  10am-4pm…one hour for lunch

Learn more about watersheds and what lives in them with Biological Assessment training. Biological monitoring includes using a net and identifying macroinvertebrates that live at the bottom of the river. Visual monitoring includes walking a stream segment and observing land use and its impact on the river. Location is to be announced. FREE for members but please register by May 13, 2006. Night Sounds and Summer Sky Stories

Hosted by Bergen SWAN and Palisades Nature Association (Greenbrook Sanctuary)

June 24, 2006, 7:30 - 9:30 PM

Location: Poplar Road Nature Sanctuary, River Vale. This first ever guided evening walk through the mysterious Poplar Road woods will focus on the night songs of wildlife as we transition into summer. Learn how to recognize the insects, amphibians, birds and mammals of the night and their associated sounds and scents. Later, under a new moon and the open sky, learn to recognize some summer constellations and hear their stories. Bring a flashlight, insect spray, binoculars, and wear hiking shoes. Open to adults and children over 8 with an adult; closed to all pets.

Minimum contribution, $5 per adult; free to members of NPC organizations. Pre-registration is required.

Boat Trip through Bergen County

July 19, 2006, 5:30 - 8:00 pm

Join us for a Hackensack River pontoon boat trip through eastern Bergen County, departing from the River Barge Marina, Carlstadt. Fully narrated by seasoned captains Bill Sheehan and Hugh Carola, you will learn about the past, present and future of the region and the role and recovery of the eco-system in this highly urbanized environmental oasis. 15 years and older, please.
