Comforts of Home Supports Hackensack Riverkeeper Initiatives

Comforts of Home, a company founded by 2002 Friend of the Hackensack River award-winner Richard Dwyer and his wife, Irene, will donate 10% of the profits from its seashell candles and products purchased through Hackensack Riverkeeper referrals to the Riverkeeper’s educational programs.

The family-owned business designated the environment as the beneficiary of its philanthropy program. Comforts of Home will celebrate its first anniversary by donating four Red maple (October Glory) trees to the Bayonne Board of Education. The trees will be planted near the Horace Mann School.

“I spent much of my childhood in Jersey City’s Lincoln Park West, and it is easy to get sad thinking about how the river was made to be so polluted and lifeless. From my perspective, it is exciting to see how the Hackensack River is becoming vibrant,” said Irene, president of Comforts of Home.

“Richie and our son Eamonn have been helping the Hackensack Riverkeeper for quite a few years. I want our company’s future and success to be a helping hand in the reestablishment of the River as a social, economic and recreational resource.”

Hackensack Riverkeeper’s Captain Bill Sheehan said, “Everyone benefits from improvements in the river’s water quality. Whether you are an established corporation or a company just getting off the ground, we should all work together to draw attention to the vitality of the Hackensack River and the plants and animals that depend on it for survival.”
