Comedy Night Will Turn Laughs Into Support For Hackensack Riverkeeper

On Thursday, August 18, at 9:00 PM, a host of comedians will take the stage at Redd’s Restaurant to focus the power of laughter onto a serious subject - the recovery of the Hackensack River. The event is the brainchild of promoter Richard Carucci whose company, Steamroller Entertainment, has presented numerous comedy benefits throughout Bergen County.

“I’ve been doing this for a while now but this will be our first benefit for an environmental group,” said  Carucci, who spends his days working as a dispatcher for the Hackensack Fire Department. “After learning about the work they do, I really wanted to help by running a special benefit featuring my best entertainers.”

Both Carucci and Redd’s Restaurant are donating their services for the event, as are the New York City-based comedians whose line-up is currently being assembled. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Hackensack Riverkeeper’s® ongoing work to stop pollution and create an 8,400-acre wildlife refuge in the New Jersey Meadowlands.

“Sure, there were a few snide laughs when I started Hackensack Riverkeeper,” says Captain Bill Sheehan, the organization’s executive director. “But I guess you could say that we’re having the last laugh as far as the Meadowlands is concerned.

Redd’s Restaurant is located at 317 Washington Avenue, Carlstadt, NJ - just north of the Meadowlands Sports Complex. Redd’s owner Doug Palsi invites ticket holders to come early for a pre-show dinner but stresses that reservations are strongly recommended. (Redd’s outstanding menu is featuring at http://www.reddsrestaurant.com.) The show starts at 9:00 PM with ticket holders being admitted to the upstairs room at 8:00 PM. Drinks and light refreshments will be available for purchase during the performances.
