Hackensack Riverkeeper's Awards
Celebration and Sustainable SeafoodFest
Hackensack Riverkeeper's Seventh Annual Awards Celebration and Sustainable SeafoodFest will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2006. This year's celebration will take on a Caribbean flavor, featuring entertainment, a silent auction and an awards presentation. Tropical drinks with mixers by Stirrings, a delicious buffet dinner featuring sustainable seafood provided by Whole Foods followed by delectable desserts from Elegant Desserts make it a night not to be missed. This year we will be holding the celebration at a new location - the Knickerbocker Country Club in Tenafly - with plenty of room to hold a pirate's bounty of unbelievable auction items. This year we will be celebrating the contributions made by four extraordinary friends of the Hackensack River watershed. Hackensack Riverkeeper will honor Jim Kirkos of the Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce with its first ever Visionary Award, and Len Kaiser of the Bergen County Utilities Authority and New Jersey Meadowlands Commission for Excellence in Public Service - Bergen County. The Excellence in Public Service - Hudson County Award will be given to recognize the efforts of the Hudson County Department of Parks and Recreation for their assistance in the creation of the new Paddling Center building in Laurel Hill Park, and their tremendous ongoing support of our river cleanup program. A final award for Excellence in Media / Arts will be presented to the creators of New Jersey Public Television's production about urban wetlands, Turning the Tide. Proceeds from the event will be used to help HRI fulfill its mission to protect, preserve and restore the Hackensack River watershed. Tickets for the event cost $125 and can be purchased by calling Darlene Kasten at 201-968-0808, online at www.HackenackRiverkeeper.org or by completing the attached reply card and mailing it to Hackensack Riverkeeper, 231 Main Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601. |
