Houseboat Donation

 

Last month, Hackensack Riverkeeper received a significant donation from a long-time supporter. Karole Brancato, the principal of High Tech High School in North Bergen, has been familiar with our activities for years as a result of our school-based Urban Fishing Program. Her husband, Jerry, passed away unexpectedly in the late spring, and Karole made a decision to donate their houseboat to Hackensack Riverkeeper.

 

In Karole’s words, “Jerry loved our houseboat and loved rivers, oceans and lakes.  He was a wonderful educator for 37 years....so our donation to the Riverkeeepers is a natural because it combines both aspects.”

 

It was Karole’s hope, and ours, that we turn the boat into a “floating lab,” but that may not be feasible at this time.
