LEAVE A LEGACY

By Kathy Urffer

Hackensack Riverkeeper has elected to participate in LEAVE A LEGACY™ New Jersey, a statewide awareness campaign to encourage people to make gifts to the charities that they care about when arranging their estate plans.

Sponsored by the Gift Planning Council of New Jersey, LEAVE A LEGACY™ New Jersey is a collaboration of nonprofit organizations, community foundations, businesses, attorneys, accountants, trust officers, and estate planners. It is a volunteer, nonprofit, public education effort to increase awareness of and participation in charitable gifts and bequests. There are more than 140 campaigns across the United States and Canada involving hospitals, museums, social service organizations, schools and colleges, foundations, United Ways, environmental organizations, and other charities.

We have learned, through the LEAVE A LEGACY™ website, that many people provide annual gifts to causes and organizations that are important to them. But only 8 of 100 Americans include a gift to their favorite charities through their will.

LEAVE A LEGACY™ New Jersey can help to show you how to arrange for charitable bequests. You can access their website at www.leavealegacy-newjersey.org, or call the campaign headquarters at 609-585-0248 if you have any questions.
