HELP SPREAD THE WORD

If you have received this newsletter, chances are that you support the mission of Hackensack Riverkeeper. Either you have taken an Eco-Cruise, have participated in a river cleanup or sent in some greatly appreciated money to Hackensack Riverkeeper. However, there is even more that you can do to support our mission. It won't cost you a dime or a spare weekend morning. It won't cost you a thing.

All you have to do is help to spread the word of Hackensack Riverkeeper's mission to preserve, protect and restore the Hackensack River. Just make sure that you friends, family, neighbors and coworkers are aware of what Hackensack Riverkeeper is and what it does on behalf of the community and the entire watershed region.
On one level, Captain Bill Sheehan is the Hackensack Riverkeeper. Based on his abilities, his commitment and his energies, the Hackensack River is a much cleaner river and a much healthier ecosystem than is was just a few short years ago.
However, on another level, WE, the Hackensack River constituency, are also keepers of the river. Hackensack Riverkeeper is an individual as well as an organization of friends of the river. And as friends, we should each take the initiative to spread Hackensack Riverkeeper's voice so that the organization can effectively achieve its goals.
Each one of us can and must be an ambassador of the Hackensack. Let us all spread the message that the river can be reclaimed by the entire watershed community. Let folks know about the Eco-Cruise and Eco-Walk programs. Encourage a class trip at your child's school. Don't be shy about your associates. Let them know that you will be volunteering your time for a river cleanup or a fundraiser or that you will be spending time the afternoon at a River festival.
This vital support requires nothing from you beyond a simple chat with those close to you with whom you normally interact. The benefits of increased awareness extends to every aspect of OUR organization.
We publish Hackensack Tidelines to let our supporters know of the important events that affect the River. Hackensack Tidelines also alerts you to issues that continue to affect the future of the Hackensack. But this, to a large extent, is "preaching to the converted." With your help, we can also educate an even greater percentage of the watershed's community that there is a force for positive change on the Hackensack.
There was a day when Captain Bill's voice was alone in the fight. Now you can add your voice to his to make everyone around us aware of the ongoing efforts to make the Hackensack an environmental success story.
