Letters to Riverkeeper:

Dear Bill:

I want to thank you for the kind comments you made about me in the Jersey Journal article of December 24 reporting my departure from the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission.

Bill, there were times during my tenure when you and I were in emphatic agreement or disagreement. In any case, I will always maintain for you the highest respect. You are truly a person who is motivated only by your perceptions of the public good. When it comes to Bill Sheehan, there is no hidden personal or partisan political agenda. You truly are dedicated to the environmental preservation and enhancement of the Meadowlands, and New Jersey is fortunate to have you as one of its foremost citizens.

As I leave, I wish you the very best of luck and success in all your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Alan J. Steinberg
Executive Director New Jersey Meadowlands Commission
(Formerly, Hackensack Meadowlands Development Commission)

Hi Bill,

Congratulations. I was very glad to read on the Garden State Environews about the 1.2 million dollars in the legislation for land acquisition in the meadowlands and the hopeful passage in the Senate. I also saw the news story about the "nautica" land. It looks like your vision, determination, and hard persistent fighting, in conjunction with Andy Willner, Greg Remaud, the staff of the Hackensack Riverkeeper and NY/NJ Baykeeper, and many others will save a great natural area for generations to enjoy.

I know much work is ahead but it seems you're on the verge of preventing major future battles. The Meadowlands, as an "environmental park" and Liberty State Park will be providing habitat and a sense of peacefulness in this concrete region. Your work is an inspiration to me and thousands of others. I hope the great idea of the Meadowlands being designated as a National Wildlife Refuge does become a reality. Thanks.

Hope you have a well-deserved break at Thanksgiving.

Best Wishes,

Sam Pesin
President of The Friends of Liberty State Park
