Thanks to a very generous offer from Mr. Michael Duffy and the National Marine Manufacturers Association, Hackensack Riverkeeper took part in the 2003 New York National Boat Show. Held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan from December 28, 2002 to January 5, 2003, the show attracted tens of thousands of boat owners and enthusiasts. “Mike offered us a great display space in a perfect location at no charge,” said Capt. Bill, who manned the Riverkeeper booth all eight days. “It was a great way to spend some quality time during the Holidays.”

During the show, the Captain and his staff (who were allowed to rotate throughout the holiday season) spoke with hundreds of people about the Hackensack River and its availability as a recreational resource and fishing destination. Many folks had questions about the River’s water quality as well as the ever-present inquiries about the future of the Meadowlands. “Needless to say, everyone who stopped by our booth took some education with them when they left,” Capt. Bill added.  Hackensack Riverkeeper staff distributed well over three thousand copies of a special boat show edition of Hackensack Tidelines.
