Hackensack Riverkeeper Trustee Named Executive Director of Garden State EnviroNet Ivan Kossak, treasurer of the Hackensack Riverkeeper Board of Trustees, has been named executive director of Garden State EnviroNet (GSENet) a free online environmental news service (www.gsenet.org). Founded 10 years ago by Phil Reynolds, GSENet keeps New Jersey’s environmental community informed of breaking news about important environmental issues. “EnviroNet provides communication and technological support to New Jersey’s entire environmental community,” Kossak explained. “Accessing this support allows them to operate more efficiently and effectively to preserve our environment.” GSENet’s flagship service is the EnviroNews, a free electronic digest-type newsletter that is sent Monday through Friday right to subscribers’ email boxes. In a single document, it provides up-to-date information about significant issues affecting New Jersey’s natural world. Articles are culled from local, state, regional and national publications, saving readers hours of searching for this vital information. GSENet’s website provides action alerts about pending environmental issues, postings of available jobs in the environmental field, a legislative report detailing what is happening in our state house as it affects New Jersey’s environment, a calendar of upcoming environmentally related events, and a searchable database of over 3,500 documents archived from prior issues of the EnviroNews. Since its inception, GSENet has provided its services to New Jersey’s environmental community free of charge. “We exist thanks to the commitment of our volunteers and staff, and the generosity of our supporters, especially the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation,” Kossak said. Contributions are accepted online at www.gsenet.org/support/donate.php. You can subscribe free to EnviroNews and access all of the site’s services at www.gsenet.org. Comments and suggestions are welcome at mailbox@gsenet.org. Editor’s Note: Another connection is HRI’s Program Director, Hugh Carola, who serves GSENet as a Trustee. |
