Hackensack Riverkeeper 231 Main Street Hackensack, NJ 07601 201-968-0808 201-968-0336 (FAX) August 31, 2005 MEDIA ADVISORY Contact: Lisa G. Ryan or Captain Bill Sheehan September 11 River Cleanup is Part of National Day of Service
WHAT: Hackensack Riverkeeper River Cleanup WHERE: Laurel Hill County Park, New County Road, Secaucus (at public boat ramp) WHEN: Sunday, September 11 from 12 Noon until 5 PM WHY: September 11 has been set aside as a voluntarily observed national day of service, charity and compassion to honor the victims of the terrorist attacks on the United States. For this reason, Hackensack Riverkeeper has scheduled one of their river cleanups on this date, to provide an opportunity for people to come together and do something productive for their own community. Laurel Hill County Park is the site of Hackensack Riverkeeper's Paddling Center and Eco-Cruise Program, so all of their boats will be put to use during this cleanup. Volunteers will have the opportunity to paddle around and fill canoes with trash, put on waders and get dropped in the marshes by pontoon boat, or stay on dry land equipped with pickup sticks and trash bags. Hackensack Riverkeeper will supply all equipment, as well as lunch and snacks. Volunteers are requested to bring a bottle of water, bug spray and sunscreen, and to plan on getting very muddy at this cleanup! No registration is required, and people may call Lisa Ryan at 201-968-0808 for further information. |
