That’s right, it’s almost
WORLD SERIES OF BIRDING time!
On Saturday, May 10, 2008, the Hackensack RiverCreepers will once
again take to the woods, marshes, fields and neighborhoods of our watershed
to list as many bird species as we can during NJAS’s “spring classic”. Our
binoculars and field guide are ready,
we’ve been playing birdsong CDs in our cars for weeks, and we’re good to go.
As you probably know by now, the WSB is world’s premier birding event and it
takes place right here in New Jersey – the Crossroads of Migration.
Each year, people come from across the globe to count birds and raise critical
funds for conservation. We hope you will travel with us in spirit by making a
pledge to help support the ongoing work of Hackensack Riverkeeper to protect,
preserve and restore the river, its watershed and its wildlife.
Here's how you can join the team without having to leave the comfort of
your home:
Just send an e-mail to me at
Hugh@hackensackriverkeeper.org with your per-species pledge. Please include
your name, snail-mail address and the amount of your pledge. After the WSB, I'll
send you the results and a SASE for your tax-deductible donation (our species
count X your pledge amount). We expect to list about 100 species; if we do, a
50¢ pledge will translate into a $50 donation, a $1 pledge gets us $100, and so
on.
If you prefer to make a single WSB-earmarked donation instead of a pledge, you
can do so easily on our Website. Go to:
http://www.hackensackriverkeeper.org/donate.html and follow the easy
directions (Be sure to enter your donation on the World Series of Birding line).
I’ll be sure to send you a copy of the results with our compliments when the WSB
is over.
With your help this year, I’m sure we can reach the magic $10,000 mark. As
always, we appreciate your pledges and donations regardless of the amount. Thank
you so very much for you time, your support and for being an important part of
our Hackensack Riverkeeper crew.
See you in the field,
Capt. Hughie Carola, Program Director & Chief 'Creeper
